About Us

professional ~ educated ~ caring

Jane Neve owns and operates Canine Conduct. She has been involved with dogs her whole life and began formal training as an assistant instructor in 1981. Jane found the “traditional” methods of training disheartening. During her 12 years operating animal shelters and working in veterinary clinics, Jane immersed herself in the study of dog behaviour by attending conferences, workshops and seminars and discovered a positive approach to training.

During the lead up to Canine Conduct’s inception in 1993, Jane’s search for positive motivational trainers introduced her to trainers such as Suzanne Clothier , Dr. Ian Dunbar , Karen Pryor , Jean Donaldson , Turid Rugaas, Chirag Patel, Grisha Stewart and many others (visit the links page for more great names!). It is from these influences that Canine Conduct was born and continues to flourish.

Jane’s goal is to share those techniques of training in a compassionate, respectful and fun way with other dog lovers and owners. Jane can often be heard to say “do no harm”, “dogs do what works for dogs”, “oh my goodness, if you want to dog geek out together, I’ll only stop when your eyes glaze over”, “training is a journey”.

Jane loves her life in Black Creek with her dogs Clover, Poncho, Zara and Bogart. Jane also shares her home with 2 cats and various furry-faced house guests.

Jane gives complimentary talks on Bite Prevention and Dog/Child Safety at public events, community centres, child day cares and schools.

Canine Conduct is centrally located in Black Creek in the Comox Valley (Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland) and serves all North Island communities including Campbell River and south to Nanaimo. Appointments on Quadra, Denman and Hornby Islands can be arranged. Now celebrating over 15 years on the Island, Jane is the original “Black Creek Dog Trainer”.
